Baisakhi

Global Punjabi Association celebrated Baisakhi-di-raat along with Padmashree Mahendra Kapoor Awards on 15 th April at Hotel Tulip Star, Juhu.

Baisakhi is a festival which has tremendous significance for the Sikhs as it was on Baisakhi Day in the year 1699 that the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh laid down the foundation of the Panth Khalsa that is the Order of the Pure Ones. This day is also observed as the Thanksgiving Day by the farmers who pay their tribute to God for the abundant harvest and also pray for the future prosperity.

But then Punjabi youth [which includes all those who are young at heart!] hardly need the excuse of a good harvest to stomp their feet and dance away Baisakhi-di-raat! And egging them on all was the beautiful and bubbly duo of Ruby Bhatia and Upaasna Singh. Giving the ‘angrezi beat' was leading Bollywood musicians Sunny Melodies and to sweep the Punjabi kids off their feet was Vikas Bhalla, Meet Brothers, Indian Idol finalist Swaroop Khan & Ruhan Mahendra Kapoor. Asrani's appearance kept everyone in rollicking good humour and for the climax was Jaspinder Narula's stupendous voice.

But with the Global Punjabi Association, it's not only song and dance. It's also about recognizing and honouring the greats of the Punjabi Community.

Our Chief Guest, Senior BJP Leader and former Dy. Prime Minister, Shri L.K. Advani ji gave away the Padmashree Mahendra Kapoor Awards to eminent Punjabis such as as O.P.Bali (Ex-Director General of Police), Justice Jog Singh(Member,Securities Appellate Tribunal), Music Director Surinder Kohli, Ms.Priti Sapru and Padmashree Manoj Kumar ji.

For Global Punjabi Association, ‘Baisakhi' marks a new beginning and a new opportunity, to bring the Global Punjabi Community together in a host of ambitious projects to serve the people of India and once again create a new step towards a social cause.
